My grandfather worked at the Canada Packers plant in Regina for something like twenty years, perhaps a little more or less. He was industrious, a labourer who would have lived the cliché “Never missed a day of work for twenty years” were it not for the lay-offs during the Depression. I believe that he was proud of his work there, perhaps not of the work itself, but of the act of working, knowing that he sustained his family, that he was well regarded by his co-workers and employers.
